New "Traditions"

So yesterday I bought this box:

Well the box will say our last name and so forth. M and I were not fans of the sand deal and found out from our priest that the unity candle had no tradition significance, so we decided to do something that would be a little more "us".  And what do we love almost as much as each other (I know gag right), we love wine. So we are going to go with this new trend people are doing and sealing up two letters, a bottle of wine, and anything else we would like to see in 5 or ten years. For full details check out this website which talks about it.

In other news M ordered the cables for the TV so we (him) can crack open the wall to hide it all and then we can paint the living room. then next will be painting the bedroom so since the bedroom will finally be painted I have been looking around for decorating items and I am obsessed with the mirror behind the table lamps idea. Something along the lines of these:
reblogged from desiretoinspire.net, originally Nichloas Haslam

Since we have non-matching bedside tables (we decided to go that route rather than matchy matchy) I want to match the table lamps and mirrors on the sides (or maybe just the mirrors) eh who knows.
Now I just have to find mirrors and lamps that I like.  Shouldn't be to hard, who am I kidding, it is a pain in the arse.

Eeeeeeeeee just found out good friends of ours closed on their house! They are moving closer to us! Woohoo.

So I should get back to work now.... Opps Happy Thursday.

Sunday bloody Sunday

Whewww... was yesterday a whirlwind. Yeah sure it took me a while to get out of bed but when I did I found this mess.
Marcel has gotten up before me and destroyed our house. Not in a literal sense but my M had pulled out the boxes and started the process and then decided to move on to the project of the ceiling fan in our bedroom. I love my guy to death but holy moly does he has ADD.

At the end of the day it all ended up cleaned up and we ended up with a brand new spankin ceiling fan with an overhead light! Yeah I do not understand why houses were not built with overhead lighting? Seriously?!?!?! So we my boy toy put up our light this weekend with a ceiling fan. I cannot wait to use it once the weather gets warm. Although I would just prefer it to stay like this.  I know I know blah blah blah, but I like the cold weather. So check it out, our new fan/light. Plus it has a remote that we could put right near the bed so there is no having to fight over who has to get up to turn it off.  Once we figure out actual room settings it could move.
So much to do still to do in our room, like paint, but first thing comes first and that is the living room. The picture above at least the garland is hiding the wires and the tree is hiding where a shelf has been ripped off, and the paint is still gross from the previous owners, so that room comes first! Crossing fingers still that the wires will be done for my birthday.

I also worked on organizing our linen closet this weekend.  Not to much progress yet but at least I  know whats in there now. Now for the long week (since the previous two were short).  Here is to a great 2011. I cannot believe I am getting married this year!!!!

Oh yeah New Years was ok but nothing exciting, pretty standard. Cheers to the work week.

Live like there is no tomorrow

The coming of the new year is always a time to reflect on the past and this year has brought me/us some good fortune and some tough times. I just passed the 2 year anniversary of my grandfathers death and I am now watching a close friend deal with her fathers cancer. With times like that I decided that my New Years resolution for 2011 is to live like there is no tomorrow. I need to learn to take life by the horns and take advantage of what I have.

Notable times from 2010 include:

Buying our first home.
Brought our girl Chloe home (and dealt with her parvo) and got a cat.
Watched my little sister get married.
Lost my job due to the acquisition.
Did more wedding planning, found my shoes and most recently the dress.
Most recently M and I got our first new car (well not brand new but for us who are both driving cars from the mid 90's its a big deal).

Here's to 2011, a year that is shaping up to be one of the biggest of my life, the year I become a Mrs. Cheers to a happy and safe night!

Just passing the time..

Well hellooo there! The title today somewhat rings true. Since I found out last week that my company was being acquired I have been counting the days until we file our 10-Q this week because after that, its a tad downhill. Even though there has been no formal announcement about my departments jobs, being the non revenue making group we are it is pretty much guaranteed that we will be out of jobs. The whole thing hit me pretty hard and I think I am still trying to let it sink in. Hey what can I say, I like my co-workers and we have a good time with one another.

On the bright side of it all, a friend of mine got laid off last week (well that isn't the bright side part) but our "pity-party" Friday night was. M fired up the grill and I popped open the champagne (of the red label of sorts of course). It took me a little while to get out of bed on Saturday but once I did all hell broke loose in our front yard. Weeds beware, I am after you! I cannot wait until I finally get it in good shape (hopefully in time for the housewarming party). My neighbors confirmed what M and I thought, the previous owners only mowed the lawn for the past 5 years, anything else, forget it.

As the weekend continued into Sunday we headed out to Clayton (remember my love for their Oktobeerfest?) for their Art and Wine Festival where we had absolutely gorgeous weather, 83 to be exact. We spent the day outside and then headed home to grill up some food with my sisters. I seriously love having a home and having a fiance who loves hosting as much as I do. This is what our home is for, us and all our loved ones. I am off to catch some zzz's.

Here is to a brighter tomorrow...

Chalk it up

It is finally done! My black board wall is completed and working well.

Before I go there though, all I can say is thank goodness last week is over! I still have our 10-K that still is to be done but our LLC report went out on Friday and  the sisters bridal shower was Saturday! So two things causing me stress are finally out the door. The bridal shower went well, I had 30 women in my house, we were a little restricted to the house since the weather well... did not work with us on Saturday. Sunday was perfect! I sat on the couch and that is where I resided all day. Ok so you guys want to know about the wall?

Here is the wall before. Oh yes the whole kitchen is that awful I think I used to be an ivory wall but now I kinda look yellow. Another project to get through.  So the wall is texturized and you need a flat wall to paint the chalk board paint on so I had to sand it down. Totally reccommend an electric sander if you have one considering my shoulders still do not feel so hot. So sanding away and then once done make sure you wash down the wall to get all dust off.

Here is the paint that I used (all images me, except this one from google images). The wall needed two coats to stay warm in my kitchen since the oven doesn't get turned on to much.
Check it out, this was my bubble. I seriously spent more time putting "the bubble" up than it would of been for me to clean up but cleaning, not my bag of chips. So it took me an hour to put this up and tape and I still had to clean up after. Okay enough is enough (well maybe I just want to go to sleep, actually I want to watch K. Kardashian poo out her baby). So here it is!
I found the silver magnet strip at the container store and thought it might be a fun addition. The 1 year 3  months, that was for M since he has been out of town for 3 weeks and I thought he might need a reminder that I am here waiting for him. Oh yeah the clean up (i.e. making the lines straight come once he gets home to take the cabinet doors down).

Toodles loves!

Just call me Martha

So this whole wedding thing (mine, friends and sisters) and the new house have me channeling my inner Martha. Last night I started sanding down the wall in the kitchen  to remove the texture for the chalk board wall and today I have the reminents in my nose. Note to self go buy a mask before I finish sanding.

Sunday night was sewing night. I saw an idea about sewing napkins for weddings and what not so I decided to take on the project for my sister's bridal shower. So here I am sewing away. Notice the machine, it is my Mom's and that thing is older than me. I know right, how is something older than my old self? I got through about 20 napkins and the lines, not so straight, oh well, its the thought right?

I am actually excited about the bridal shower because it will be the first time that I have had a party at my house. We have been too busy for a house warming party and now M is gone for 3 weeks for work, then he gets back and I am in crunch time for work. We will get there and you better believe there will be beer and probably a little beirut.

Hope everyones short week is going well.

The house!

We  I found it! I found my camera cord. Although apparently we took very few photos before we started changing things up. There are also the pictures pre the old owners moving out and those where we have started the projects.  This one is the old owners "baby room", well those who have been reading that is NOT what I wanted for my birthday this year. See the color? The chair rail? We vetoed those before we even moved in.
Here is the room as the process started. The chair rail gone and the painting getting ready to go.
Our least favorite paint job had to be the kitchen. Country kitsch anyone?

Yeah blue walls blue counters, ugh. now I do not have a before before. So this is AFTER we took the chair rail off in the kitchen, it was like they tried to match the chair rail to the cabinets but did it really poorly, I mean I could pull off the base boards and chair rail with my hand? Really? So country kitsch no more (well the blue counters are still there but one day they will be replaced) and I am actually looking for a zebra print rug that can fit into space that is not shown here.

We still have another month before our bedroom furniture comes in :( but at least things are cleaning up a little. Finally the baseboards were put in the kitchen last night! woop woop, now they just have to be painted, but things are coming together and looking a little better. My focus get it together so we can have a housewarming party wooohoooo, who is in? Home brew, some of my uncles award winning wines. Yep my Uncle is the Assistant wine Master at Schug and the Best of Class, thats his! woop woop!!! Alright well this is getting long and I need to start my birthday!!! Woooohooooo 8:36 a.m tomorrow and I am 29, yikes, I am getting old.

Firefighting

So this was me yesterday.  I was fighting fires all morning (of course not in the literal sense) but yesterday morning was quite a morning at work. I then got home and took care of two more boxes and got them up off the kitchen floor and two loads of laundry done so that we can almost see our bedroom floor.

It is starting to look a little more like home and less of a storage facility, although the garage, well we have a longggg way to go with that. Currently wandering around on amazon, etsy and so forth for little decorating ideas. We found a bed frame and one bedside table (I do not want to match them) at Room & Board. If you like the simplistic, clean lines, no frill this place is awesome! M spent last night under the house doing some minor fixing to our HVAC since the seller gave us the money in our closing costs instead of fixing it, whatever M likes those projects.

Oh we also set a date! June 3, 2011, I will become a Mrs. and M and I will be throwing probably our biggest party we will ever have (not a large wedding, 100 peeps, but a great big party for us!).

I am also feeling a bit of beautiful KLaw's pain, although mine came in the form of Conjunctivitis, thats right all, I found myself at the doctor Monday night getting eye drops because of PINK eye. Pink pretty right? In your eye not so much, I blame the work stress.

Alright I am out, back to the thing they call work. Miss you all!

Oh yeah T-minus 7 days until I celebrate the 4th anniversary of my 25th B-day! Yea!!!

Still settling in

So the internet is up and working, as far as everything being put away it is FAARRRRR from there. The garage is still full of boxes, or garbage cans have not arrived so well it is also full of the beer bottles from Saturday night. Yea, we were those people, Saturday we move Saturday night our house was full of people drinking beer. So much fun.

So we technically moved in Saturday and we are still sorting through boxes and every morning our closet is pretty much the garage. It sucks, nothing can be worse for my anxiety than boxes everywhere and things not having a home.  There is still stuff at the old place and on top of it all I am working like crazy right now and lets just say that at this point of the night and just getting home I MUCH rather be here on blogger than actually doing something. Oh and M and I set a date this past week, June 3, 2011 I will become his wife.  Yep it is a long time away but right now, we kind of have a lot going on.

Ok ok enough of that I should probably get moving along, I swear pictures to come, now if I could just find the cord for my camera... Miss all you lovelies!
